A maiden from Galilee was being conducted to Jerusalem in royal splendor. The procession apparently took the Jordan valley route south, because as it approached Jerusalem it is said to come “out of the wilderness.” Moving up the steep hills from the Jordan valley to Jerusalem the procession would of necessity pass through the wilderness of Judea.
